When I started working on pace velocity over 15
years ago, I dreamed of a program that would generate not only pace of
the race velocity ratings but solid running styles and pace pictures of
the probable match-ups. Thanks to Jason, my son and the programmer,
dreams do come true. This is the version of VG that I envisioned all
those years ago. I would like to thank all the many players who've
visited my site over the years and given me their insights and
suggestions. It's very much appreciated.
Albert Einstein once said, "Everything
should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler". And that's what
I've tried to do here at PaceAppraiser.

Without question the best payoffs I have at the track are
generated by
Extreme Pace Handicapping. Those nice payoffs
don’t come from pedestrians. I’m talking about thieves and
carpetbaggers, opportunists who are ordinary but have found
themselves in extraordinary situations - the right place, the
right time.
In
1991 I started playing the pace picture way. It made such a difference
that I have dedicated my handicapping life to it. This guidebook will

The concept that VG is built on is solid, pace matters - the
“pace of the race” matters. Ray Taulbot’s original idea about
pace of the race, instead of pace of the horse, was and still is
the inspiration and the reason I continue to research pace
ability of racehorses. Many years ago Mr. Taulbot wrote, “A
winning horse either sets or overcomes the pace of the race it
runs against.” I amended that statement to, “A (superior)
winning horse either sets or overcomes the (fast) pace of the
race it runs against.” That statement sums up my work.
Whether you want to know the pace ability of a particular horse,
or if a horse should improve this time out, or if a race is a
key pace race, or if that 103 speed figure that towers over the
field is for real, Velocity Generator will inform you.
IMPORTANT: The program exposes weak pace ability; we won’t be
fooled by good pacelines. Eliminating those horses saves us
