Through all the different versions of PaceAppraiser I’ve tried to discover what really works. So PaceAppraiser became Research and then Company, an online horse racing lab, you might say. The discovery process, the lab work, filled volumes of notebooks and numerous spreadsheets with every conceivable combination of factors. The process still continues. The Velocity Generator approach to pace velocity, discovered over 10 years ago, is the result of those years of research and testing.

There are four writers who deserve a lot credit: Ray Taulbot , Bob Heyburn, Dr. William Quirin, and Dr. James Quinn. Mr. Taulbot inspired my work with “pace of the race” instead of pace of the horse. Mr. Heyburn added the pace race theory to my pace velocity research. Dr. Quirin gave us all speed points, and what a difference they’ve made. Dr. Quinn opened my eyes to a comprehensive Class approach by way of his excellent Handicapper’s Condition Book. Their ideas merged with mine and so here we are.

It’s been my pleasure to try to offer something of value to the most important group in the racing industry, the handicapper. If folks think chess players are the sharpest knives in the drawer then they’ve haven’t meet the handicappers I know. My online visitors deserve the best I can do.
